Lily is sooo Chanel. Sha reminds of young Coco with all her unostentatious sexuality and strong character.

Staying boy-some rude and feminine-some graceful she conquered men, as Lily with all same qualities conqueres our attention.

Lagerfeld’s Russian Passion

Posted: November 4th, 2009 | Author: Daria | Filed under: Books | Tags: , | No Comments »

“Chanel’s Russian Connection” is a new book by Karl Lagerfeld that will be released on November, 30 2009. Even though there is Chanel name in the book title it definately shows Lagerfeld’s connection to Russia or his passion to Russia, I would say.

The album shows the process of Paris-Moscou collection creation by Metiers d’Arts – 7 ateliers that were recreated in 2002 on Lagerfeld’s initiative. These ateliers are the best in costume jewellery, millinery, shoes creating and embroidery, which they provide all couture houses with. Karl Lagerfeld’s Paris-Moscou collection for Chanel shows Karl’s view on Russia with all its Imperial period and Constructivism, Catherine The Great and Faberge, folklore and Coco Chanel’s love to Russia with the Ballets Russes and her relationship with Grand Duke Dmitry Pavlovich.

Karl Lagerfeld once said that he could show lots of his imagination because he had never been to Russi before. As French would say “Karl est tres modeste”, because who is not the one who has lack of imagination. Paris-Moscou collection proves that Karl is all about fantasy and fairy-tale. “Chanel’s Russian Connection” will show on photos the whole process of collection creation, even the fitting in Chanel’s apartment on rue Cambon. It’s interesting to mention that all models were russian. Karl is right once again – nobody can show russian beauty better than russin girls can do it.

The book will be released together with “Coco 1913 – Chanel 1923″ on DVD.

Karl Lagerfeld and Philippe Starck design covers for Wallpaper* magazine

Posted: September 14th, 2009 | Author: andrey | Filed under: Photos | No Comments »

Karl Lagerfeld, the creative director of French fashion house Chanel, and designer Philippe Starck have created covers for the latest edition of IPC’s interiors magazine Wallpaper*.

Lagerfeld – also head of the Fendi brand – and Starck have been signed up as guest editors for the October issue of Wallpaper*.

The magazine has also signed a raft of partnerships with key advertisers, including luxury furniture companies Ercol,

B&B Italia and Victorinox, which makes Swiss army knives.

Lagerfeld has designed a “peelable” cover for the monthly title, which features model Baptiste Giabiconi, dressed in Dior Homme. Lagerfeld has shot several ad campaigns for Dior. Readers can peel back this image to reveal another cover, which shows the model naked.

Starck, best known for designing high-end hotels, including the St Martin’s Lane hotel in London and the Delano in Miami, has constructed a transparent front cover using three layers of tracing paper. Vodka brand Absolut has produced a specially made advertisement for the issue, which promotes its “Rock edition” bottle.

Wallpaper* claims the paper technologies used by the design duo have never before been used on magazine covers.

Lagerfeld and Starck have each edited large sections of the October issue, which comes out on Thursday. Lagerfeld, also a sought-after photographer, has shot Giabiconi in a variety of historical settings across continental Europe, including Rome and Paris. He also writes about his collection of houses.

Starck has chosen a more philosophical subject for his pages, focusing on mankind’s quest to discover the meaning of life and interviewing scientists, physicists and cosmologists. “It is my mission to make intelligence sexy,” he said.

The Wallpaper* editor-in-chief, Tony Chambers, added: “Like their illustrious predecessors, Lagerfeld and Starck have made full use of their prime piece of Wallpaper* real estate. Both have stepped out of their creative comfort zones to challenge our preconceptions as well as their own.”

Pearl shoes

Posted: September 14th, 2009 | Author: Daria | Filed under: Chanel | Tags: , | No Comments »

Chanel Paris-Moscou collection is a real set of masterpieces created by Karl Lagerfeld. Every single thing from his collection is worth of writing an ode. Shame on me, I’m not going to write about the whole range. I suppose that shoes form Paris-Moscou collection are most fabulous examples.

Those black shoes with pearls of them, aren’t they stunning, or those dome-shoes (with heels made as domes of russian cathedrals)? Chanel shoes have to be weared on the red carpet.

This black pearly shoes are modest and chic. What could be better? By the way, these shoes are becoming popular among celebrities. Keira Knightley was the first famous person to understand the sophistication of Paris-Moscou collection. She appeared in pearly shoes twice – at Chanel haute-couture show and at the International Berlin Film Festival.

Shoes form Paris-Moscou collection can be weared only in Paris, ’cause to wear them at Moscou streets sounds crazy! Even the red Square is an awful place to walk on heels.

In two years one who has pieces from Paris-Moscou collection will be lucky fashionistas. Others will be trying to find something from collection on Portabello Road. In some years kokoshnik and pearly shoes together with matryoshka necklace would be very expensive or even auction lots.

Nobody really knows the year he was born, but really who cares about years?! When we speak about such a genius it’s not that important. But it’s always important to say that we love somebody, especially in his birthday.

Happy birthday, monsieur Karl!

No wonder that Lagerfeld’s Fall-Winter 2009-2010 show was one first ten people keep talking about months later. His signature feminine looks were transformed to warrior-like woman and it was fantastic!

But there were two things which drew all attention in the show – fur hemlets and earphones.

Could you think about something like this for going out?

Karl Lagerfeld muses about Baptiste Giabiconi

Posted: September 2nd, 2009 | Author: andrey | Filed under: interview | No Comments »

Karl Lagerfeld muses about Baptiste Giabiconi to WWD.

“I think after the ugly skinny boys of Hedi [Slimane’s] days…some ‘beauty’ was needed, but new beauty.”

WWD asked Lagerfeld why more men are suddenly turning up in women’s fashion ads and editorials: “It’s very simple,” Lagerfeld explained. “They put the girls in a more lifestyle situation. Lonely girls can be a little sad in a fashion story. They dress not only for other girls, but also to please men. The popularity is sudden because there are a few new faces.”

Lagerfeld likens Giabiconi, now rated number one on Models.com, to “a boy version of Gisele [Bündchen]: skinny, skinny but with an athletic body — good for clothes and great with no clothes.”

According to Lagerfeld, Giabiconi evokes envy even in other models. He recounted that when Naomi Campbell met him in Moscow recently, she told him, “It’s not right: We all have defects. You have none.”

Karl Lagerfeld stars in animated film

Posted: September 1st, 2009 | Author: andrey | Filed under: interview | No Comments »

As sewers and designers, we all have our inspirations, and favorites. Karl Lagerfeld has long been one of mine. He has long been a poster child for doing things your own way, and doing them with style.  Knowing this, what can I say? I had to pass this on to you. Karl Lagerfeld, designer extraordinaire or Chanel is starring in  children’s animated movie “Totally Spies! Le Film”  that opens in Europe this week.

001992dt

Totally Spies is a popular children’s cartoon that runs in Europe. As the film’s villain, Fabu, he’s going to rock. Don’t speak french or live in Europe? No worries. He’s also dubbing himself in German and English versions. Whahoo! the trifecta! I wonder if Fabu will be holding a fan! Lagerfeld’s last turn on the silver screen was in 1973 in Warhol’s L’Amour.

00198peb

Mr Lagerfeld was tapped to do Fabu because of his natural frenetic nature. He says that he talks that way because he knows three languages. Really? Funny, my exchange student also spoke three languages, and she was certainly not frenetic.
